Have you noticed how many Australian influenced cafés have popped up in Nashville over the last few years? It's become a real thing in this city, and Hearts on 12 South is one of the spots that helped start that conversation. With locations on 12th Avenue South and in East Nashville, Hearts has built a loyal following around the idea of all day café dining done the Australian way: fresh seasonal food, really good coffee, cocktails available whenever you want them, and a vibe that feels unhurried and intentional. It's the kind of place that makes you want to linger over your meal instead of rushing out the door.

The 12 South location fits right into the neighborhood. Cool atmosphere, well designed space, the kind of spot that looks great on a Saturday morning when you've got nowhere to be. The menu covers breakfast, brunch, and lunch all day long with dishes that lean fresh and seasonal. Smashed avo toast, eggs benny, ricotta hotcakes, sausage rolls, fried chicken sandwiches, açaí bowls and more. There's an Australian sensibility running through all of it that Nashville has clearly taken a liking to.

The honest take is that the food is really good and the experience is worth having, but the portions run on the smaller side for what you're paying. It's not a dealbreaker but it's worth knowing going in, especially if you're hungry. Order accordingly and maybe add a side or two.

Hearts also has some great sister properties worth knowing about, including Lakeside Lounge and the legendary Attaboy cocktail bar, so the team behind this clearly knows what they're doing across the board.

🔎 Last Eaten Review: Ricotta Hotcake

The ricotta hotcake was really good and the kind of thing you don't expect to be as satisfying as it is. Light, fluffy, and just rich enough from the ricotta without being heavy. It's one of those simple dishes that's harder to pull off than it looks and Hearts nails it. Next time we're going for the berries and cream version because after trying this one it's hard to imagine it being anything other than a great call.
