🍽️ Restaurant Run of the Week: Judge Bean's BBQ
The Brentwood BBQ hole in the wall that's been doing its thing while everything around it keeps changing..

🤠 Howdy, Nashville. This is The Nashville Grapevine, the newsletter that brings you (almost) all things Nashville.
Let’s get into it.

There's something really satisfying about a place that just stays put and keeps doing what it does well while the rest of the world around it shifts. Judge Beans BBQ in Brentwood is exactly that kind of spot. It's a family-run operation that has been quietly serving smoked meats, homemade sides, and genuine hospitality since it opened, and the neighborhood has grown up considerably around it without changing what Judge Beans is at its core. That's a rare thing and worth appreciating.
The menu is where things get interesting. Yes, this is a BBQ spot with all the classics you'd expect: smoked brisket, pulled pork, ribs, turkey, sausage, BBQ plates, sandwiches, and homemade sides that hold their own alongside the meat. But Judge Beans has also built out a surprisingly creative and unique menu that sets it apart from every other BBQ joint in Middle Tennessee. Texas Sushi, a jalapeño pepper stuffed with sausage and cheese, wrapped in brisket, is one of the most unique appetizers you'll find anywhere in Nashville. The Shrimp Diablo takes the same concept with shrimp and bacon. There's a full Tex-Mex section with smoked tamales made by the pitmaster, Nico's Tacos on flash-fried corn tortillas, border wraps, a Texas Jumbo-laya with sausage, cowboy beans, rice, and fresh bayou shrimp, and a loaded baked potato piled high with queso and salsa. This kitchen is clearly not afraid to go somewhere unexpected, and it mostly works really well.
The hole-in-the-wall vibe is a big part of the charm here. Bar area, TVs, cozy enough to feel like a neighborhood spot, unpretentious enough to make you feel comfortable walking in alone or with a group. The owners clearly care about the people who come through the door, and that comes through in everything from the food to the service.
PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
I Almost Threw Out My Keurig. It Wasn't Broken.
Every cup from my Keurig started tasting weak, flat, stale — so I unplugged it and stuck it in a closet. Then I learned the dirty secret of grocery store K-Cups: by the time a pod reaches your kitchen, it's usually spent months going from factory to warehouse to truck to shelf. The flavor oils are long gone. Some brands even over-roast to hide it.
The fix wasn't a new machine. It was fresh pods from Angelino's, a family-owned L.A. roastery that roasts, packs, and ships within 3–5 days — straight to your door, from 39¢ a cup. Over 1,000,000 happy customers. 50+ flavors, no subscription required, and 15% off your first order, applied automatically at checkout.

🔎 Last Eaten Review: Burrito
The Build Your Own Burrito is a Tex-Mex curveball at a BBQ restaurant and it absolutely delivers. You pick your beans, your protein, a side, and load it up with whatever mods you want, and it comes out packed heavy and ready to do some damage. The queso added into the burrito was the star of the whole thing, rich and creamy and running through every bite in the best possible way. It's not a dish you'd necessarily expect to order at a BBQ spot but once you do, you'll understand why it's on the menu. Loaded, delicious, and a great reason to stray from the usual BBQ plate every once in a while.
