🍽️ Restaurant Run of the Week: Pastis
A little piece of Paris just landed in Wedgewood Houston and it's already one of the best restaurants in Nashville..

🤠 Howdy, Nashville. This is The Nashville Grapevine, the newsletter that brings you (almost) all things Nashville.
Let’s get into it.

Let's talk about Wedgewood Houston for a second. If you haven't been over there lately, it's worth a look. What used to be a quiet stretch of industrial buildings and warehouses has been slowly transforming into one of the more interesting neighborhoods in Nashville, and not in the same way 12 South did. It still has some grit to it, some character, but the restaurants and bars moving in are genuinely legit. It's starting to feel a little like a mini Gulch, but hopefully it doesn’t go that far. Either way, Pastis landing on Houston Street is a pretty big deal for the neighborhood.
Pastis is actually a New York City icon that originally opened in the Meatpacking District back in 1999 and spent 25 years shaping the dining scene there before making its way to Nashville. The inside of the Nashville location is genuinely stunning. White subway tile, warm lighting, wooden tables, a beautiful bar, newspaper racks on the wall. You walk in, and for a minute you actually forget you're in Nashville. It feels like Paris, or at least what Paris should feel like, and pulling that off in a warehouse district on Houston Street is no small thing. It's the kind of room that makes you want to stay for hours.
The menu is classic French bistro done really well. French onion soup, escargots, duck confit, steak frites, moules frites, boeuf bourguignon. There's also a Plat du Jour that changes every day of the week, which is a great excuse to come back more than once. And they do lunch, brunch, and dinner, so there's really no wrong time to go. The dinner menu is calling us back for sure.
Pastis is the kind of place that makes you proud Nashville is getting restaurants like this. A concept with 25 years of history behind it, sitting in a neighborhood that's right in the middle of figuring out what it wants to be. It fits perfectly and it's only going to get better as Wedgewood Houston keeps growing. We went for lunch and are already planning the dinner visit. Do yourself a favor and get over there.

🔎 Last Eaten Review: Steak Sandwich
The waiter pointed us toward the steak sandwich and it was definitely the right call. Steak with caramelized onions, gruyère, and aïoli on a roll that holds the whole thing together without getting in the way of what's inside. The steak was cooked right, the gruyère melted perfectly into everything, and the aïoli pulled it all together. It's $35 for a lunch sandwich which sounds like a lot but the portion was massive. One of the better sandwiches in Nashville right now. Listen to your waiter on this one.
